Energy fiber is a special type of optical fiber specifically designed for transmitting high-power laser energy, unlike communication fibers used for signal transmission. It features a large core diameter, high energy density, low loss, and good flexibility, and is widely used in laser welding, cutting, cleaning, medical surgery, and defense. Its core characteristics are high power carrying capacity, low nonlinear effects, and good thermal stability. It can transmit lasers from tens of watts to kilowatts without damaging the fiber. It can operate for extended periods in high-power or high-temperature environments.
The upstream sector primarily includes suppliers of high-purity quartz preforms, fiber cladding materials, and rare-earth dopants (such as Yb³⁺, Er³⁺, etc.) and coating additives. These raw materials directly determine the power carrying capacity, optical loss, and nonlinear characteristics of the optical fiber. The midstream sector involves fiber drawing, coating, and processing. Companies precisely control the fiber's geometry, doping concentration, and mode field diameter to process the preforms into energy fibers suitable for high-power laser transmission, while simultaneously conducting power testing and environmental reliability verification.
