Midstream processing converts refined nickel into nickel hydroxide and nickel oxyhydroxide cathode materials through chemical precipitation and oxidation processes, followed by electrode fabrication, cell assembly, electrolyte filling, sealing, formation cycling, and battery pack integration. Major battery manufacturers then supply finished cells and battery systems to downstream sectors such as consumer electronics, automotive, industrial equipment, renewable energy storage, aerospace, telecommunications, and healthcare industries, while recycling companies recover nickel and other metals from spent batteries to support circular material reuse and reduce raw material dependence. In 2025, global Nickel Oxyhydroxide Battery output was about 18 GWh with 22 GWh of capacity, average prices of USD 150–350 per kWh, and gross margins around 29%.
